NUEVOS ESPACIOS DE MEMORIA EN LA CASTILLA TRASTÁMARA. Con el nacimiento de la Orden de San Jerónimo en 1373 asistimos probablemente al último y más exitoso epígono del movimiento monástico en la Europa medieval. ¿Qué había llevado a una de las últimas órdenes nacidas en la Edad Media a convertirse, de la noche a la mañana, en un instrumento crucial para la articulación visual y espiritual de las nuevas jerarquías castellanas? Con el objetivo de dar respuesta a esta pregunta el presente libro aborda una serie de aspectos relativos a la Orden Jerónima que hasta la fecha apenas habían sido tenidos en cuenta conjuntamente, tales como la creación y la fijación de discursos identitarios a través del patronazgo artístico, la negociación de los espacios de memoria dentro de la compleja topografía monacal o la articulación de narrativas devocionales mediante el uso de diferentes lenguajes artísticos. Un viaje que nos llevará por monasterios como Lupiana, Guadalupe, Fresdelval, Valparaíso o El Parral, para aportar una nueva visión sobre las dinámicas y tensiones que caracterizaron la estrecha relación entre las jerarquías castellanas y el paisaje espiritual de su tiempo.With the birth of the Order of St Jerome in 1373 we witness the last and possibly the most successful epigone of the monastic movements that arose in medieval Europe. But how did one of the last orders to be born in the Middle Ages manage to become, all of a sudden, a core element for the visual and spiritual articulation of the new Castilian hierarchies? This book is aimed at answering this question and, through a careful analysis, it sheds light on a series of aspects concerning the Order of St Jerome which so far had only been studied in isolation: the inception of identity narratives through artistic patronage, the negotiation of memorial spaces within a complex monastic topography and the use of different artistic languages for the articulation of diverse devotional discourses. This journey will lead us to monasteries such as Lupiana, Guadalupe, Fresdelval, Valparaíso and El Parral, and it will offer us a new way of understanding the dynamics and tensions that characterised the strong bonds that connected the Castilian elites to the spiritual landscape of the time.
